Matt Rush

Listening. Working. Delivering.

Running to represent Houlton, Linneus, Ludlow, New Limerick, Oakfield, in District 7

About Matt

I’ve lived in Houlton my whole life. I built my career here and my wife and I raised our three kids right here. This is home, and like so many people here, my life has been built around hard work, family, and staying connected to the people around me.

I spent my career working in the food service industry, building relationships across Aroostook County and learning firsthand what it takes to serve people and solve problems. I grew up on a potato farm in a large family, where I learned early the value of hard work, fairness, and responsibility, values I’ve carried with me my entire life.

I’m running because I believe people deserve a representative who listens, shows up, and works for them—not special interests. I understand the challenges families are facing, and I’m committed to making government work better for the people it serves.

  • At an early age, I learned the values of hard work and honesty while working on my father’s potato farm. Growing up in a family with 9 siblings, you learn quickly about fairness, compromise and responsibility.

  • As a salesman for so many years, I feel I have developed the people skills it takes to work with every person I hope to represent.

  • I am motivated to run for office because people need to know that their representative is working on their behalf, not for some special interest project. The Government should be in a place to help people with their lives, not present barriers.

What Matters Most

Economic Development & Keeping Young People Here

I believe we need to do more to create real economic opportunity in our region. Too many young people feel like they have to leave to find a good-paying job or build a future. That’s not right. We should be focused on growing our local economy so people can stay here, work here, and raise their families here. Our communities depend on that.

Government That Works for People

At the end of the day, I believe government should help people not create barriers. Too often, it feels like the system is working against the very people it’s supposed to serve. I’m running to make sure our government is focused on real solutions and is accountable to the people it represents—not special interests.

Affordable Childcare

If we want a strong workforce and strong families, we need to make childcare more affordable and accessible. Childcare has become out of reach for too many families, and it’s holding people back. Parents shouldn’t have to choose between working and being able to afford care for their kids.

Healthcare & Prescription Drug Costs

Healthcare is a major concern for all of us, especially the rising cost of prescription drugs. I’ll fight for better healthcare outcomes and work to bring down costs so families aren’t forced into impossible choices.

Education & Supporting Teachers

Our schools are the foundation of our future, and we need to do more to support them. That includes creating real incentives for people to become teachers and stay in the profession. If we want our kids to succeed, we have to invest in education and the people who make it possible.

Affordable Housing

Housing costs are putting real pressure on people here. I hear it all the time—working families struggling to find something they can afford. That’s a problem we need to take seriously. Everyone deserves a safe, stable place to live, and I will work toward practical solutions that make housing more accessible.
